Angling in Joyce County is centred on the large limestone loughs
of Corrib an Mask. These lakes offer free frishing on clean, unpolluted waters amidst
a backdrop of moor and mountain. Other options include hill loughs and a limited
amount of river fishing. The area extends from the north of Lough Mask along the
western shoreline of the lake past Tourmakeady and Churchfield (noted for its ferox
trout) to Maamtrasna south-east to Ferrybridge and Rosshill. to the south of the
area lies Lough Corrib with fishing available from Maam to Doorus and beyond through
the islands and shallows of the Carrick shore to the mouth of the Cong river. Shore
fishing is possible but best results are from a boat and there are many locations
where boats, engines etc. can be hired. |
